Privacy

In a nutshell

Hello! Thank you for visiting stoempsurprise.be!

I am Tildie Brechts, the wannabe author of science fiction and fantasy who runs this site. Full disclosure: Tildie isn’t my birth name. If you need or want to contact her or the real person behind the pseudonym, please get in touch via “our” contact form!

I promise to take every reasonable precaution to keep visitors’ personal data safe. No such information will be disclosed willingly to third parties, unless I am actually required to do so. I also promise to collect no more than the data I actually need and to delete it eventually.

That said, please note that I am no privacy expert. If you have any concerns about the effectiveness of my best-effort approach to user data privacy, please do not use the site.

More specifically

  • This site is hosted on a server located in the EU.
  • It is protected by a firewall that collects and briefly retains visiting IP addresses for site security purposes.
  • To the best of my knowledge, the site does not actively collect further identifiable user information.
  • Any identifiable information that visitors themselves may transmit to the site – e.g. through messages sent in via the contact form, or through follow-on emails – will be stored for a period of up to five years from the end of the interaction initiated by the user, unless there are compelling (e.g. legal) reason to keep a long-term record. The messages themselves, in anonymised text-only format, may be retained indefinitely.
  • Personal data shared by visitors will be used only for the intended purpose – if you send me a comment, for example, you’re giving me permission to reply. That’s it, though! I won’t use the information to contact you about anything else.
  • Visitors who have contacted me may request that I erase any personal data I hold about them. This possibility does not, however, extend to any data I may be obliged to retain for administrative, legal or security purposes.
  • Visitors’ emails may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
  • Comments are disabled, and there is no newsletter. The privacy issues do my head in.
  • Please note that the privacy policy for this site may change – notably, but not exclusively, as its functionalities evolve. However, the underlying spirit will remain: no identifiable data will be collected knowingly without user consent, and what identifiable visitor data I do hold won’t be disclosed voluntarily unless I am required to do so by law or decide on a good-faith basis that it’s the right thing to do.

Caveats

  • This site includes links to other websites. I have no control over these websites, and I assume no responsibility for their content or practices, or for those of any third party service in general.
  • Articles on this site may also include embedded content (such as videos or articles) from other websites. This type of content behaves just as if the visitor had visited the other website. These websites may collect data about visitors, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor visitors’ interaction with that embedded content, including tracking their interaction with the embedded content if visitors have an account and are logged in to that website. Use caution and proceed at your own risk.
  • This site uses caching in order to facilitate a faster response time and better user experience. Caching potentially stores a duplicate copy of every web page that is on display on this site. Cache files are temporary, and they are not accessed by third parties, except as necessary to obtain technical support from the cache plugin vendor. Cache files expire on a schedule set by the site administrator, but may easily be purged by the admin before their natural expiration, if necessary. My site may use QUIC.cloud services to process & cache your data temporarily. Please see https://quic.cloud/privacy-policy/ for more details.
